Cookie policy

1. About this Policy

1.1 This page lists everything this site keeps in your browser: cookies, and the browser storage that does the same job. For each one it says who sets it, what it is for and how long it stays.

1.2 Most of it is needed for the shop to work, such as your cart. Nothing is shared with an advertiser unless you allow it in the cookie banner.

2. What this site keeps in your browser

2.1 Browser storage (localStorage and sessionStorage) is not a cookie, but it works like one, so it is listed too. Items kept “for this tab” are deleted when you close the tab. They are grouped by type, explained below the list.

Strictly necessary

  • ns.cart.v1: The products and quantities in your cart, so it survives a dropped connection or a closed tab. No prices. Set by: This site (browser storage). How long it stays: Until you place the order, empty the cart or clear this site’s data.
  • ns.cartToken.v1: A reference WooCommerce gives your cart, so delivery and totals are worked out for your basket and no one else’s. Set by: This site, for WooCommerce (browser storage). How long it stays: Until you clear this site’s data. WooCommerce stops accepting it when its cart session ends.
  • ns.cats.v1: A copy of the category menu, so it opens at once. It holds nothing about you. Set by: This site (browser storage). How long it stays: Replaced after 12 hours.
  • ns.cartDrawer.seen: Whether the cart has already opened by itself on this visit, so it only does so once. Set by: This site (for this tab). How long it stays: Until you close the tab.
  • ns.consent.v1: Your answer to the cookie banner, so you are not asked again on every page. Set by: This site (browser storage). How long it stays: Until you change it with Cookie settings or clear this site’s data.
  • ns.remind.v1: A reference for the cart reminder you asked for, so the same reminder is not requested twice. Set by: This site (for this tab). How long it stays: Until you close the tab.
  • ns_sid (cookie): Keeps you signed in to your account. It holds a random reference, never your password. Set by: This site. How long it stays: Until you sign out, and 7 days at most.
  • ns_in (cookie): Tells the page that someone is signed in, so it loads the account. It holds the value 1. Set by: This site. How long it stays: The same as ns_sid.

Preferences

  • ns.theme: Light or dark appearance, only once you choose one. Set by: This site (browser storage). How long it stays: Until you switch back to automatic or clear this site’s data.
  • ns.banner.closed: That you closed the banner at the top of the page. Set by: This site (for this tab). How long it stays: Until you close the tab.
  • ns.ship.v1: The delivery state and delivery option you chose, to pre-select them next time. Not your address. Set by: This site (browser storage). How long it stays: Until you clear this site’s data.
  • ns.coDetails.v1: Your name, phone number, email and delivery address, only if you tick “Remember these details on this device” as you order. Never your payment details. Set by: This site (browser storage). How long it stays: Until you order again with the box unticked, or clear this site’s data.

Anonymous statistics

  • ns.vs: A random code for this tab, sent with each page you view so the shop can count visits to its pages and show what customers also viewed. Not a cookie, not linked to you or your orders, and not sent when your browser asks sites not to track you. Set by: This site (for this tab). How long it stays: Until you close the tab.

Advertising, only if you allow it

  • ns.ads.sent.v1: Order numbers already reported to Google Ads, so an order is never counted twice. Only after you allow ads measurement. Set by: This site (for this tab). How long it stays: Until you close the tab.
  • _gcl_au, _gcl_aw and other cookies whose names begin _gcl_: Lets Google Ads link an order to the ad you clicked. Only after you allow ads measurement. Set by: Google Ads, on this site. How long it stays: Up to 90 days. Withdrawing your consent removes them.
  • Cookies on Google’s own sites, such as doubleclick.net and google.com: Count ad clicks and, if you allow personalised ads, show you Nerdshed ads on other sites. Only after you allow ads measurement. Set by: Google. How long it stays: Set by Google: see Google’s page below.

3. The four types

3.1 Strictly necessary. The cart, the checkout, signing in and remembering your cookie choice. The shop cannot work without them, so the cookie banner does not switch them off.

3.2 Preferences. Choices you made, such as dark mode or remembering your delivery details. Each is kept only after you make that choice.

3.3 Anonymous statistics. One random code per tab, so a product page can show what customers also viewed. It is not a cookie, it is not linked to your name or your orders, and nothing is sent when your browser has Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control switched on.

3.4 Advertising. Google Ads cookies, only while the shop runs Google Ads and only if you allow them in the cookie banner.

4. Google Ads

4.1 Nerdshed advertises with Google Ads, run by Google Ireland Limited. Until you choose in the cookie banner, Google’s tag is not loaded and nothing is sent to Google.

4.2 With Ads measurement allowed, Google receives the order number, total and currency when you place an order, and the ad click identifier if you arrived from one of our ads. With Personalised ads allowed, Google also receives the ids and prices of the products you view or add to the cart.

4.3 We never send Google your name, email address, phone number or delivery address.

4.4 Google describes how it uses this data at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.

5. Changing your choice

5.1 Use Cookie settings at the foot of any page to change or withdraw your choice. Withdrawing stops anything further being sent to Google and removes Google’s _gcl_ cookies from this site. Refusing changes nothing else about the shop.

5.2 If your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, we treat it as a refusal and do not show the banner.

6. Clearing what is stored

6.1 You can delete everything this site keeps through your browser’s settings, usually under Privacy or Site data. Doing so empties your cart and signs you out.

7. Pages WordPress serves

7.1 A few pages on this address are WordPress’s own: the pay-for-order and order-received pages linked from our order emails, and the password reset page linked from a reset email. On those pages WooCommerce and WordPress may set their own cookies, such as wp_woocommerce_session_ (up to two days), woocommerce_cart_hash and woocommerce_items_in_cart, and wp-resetpass- for the reset. They are needed for those pages to work.

7.2 Staff who sign in to WordPress receive WordPress’s sign-in cookies. Customers signing in to their account here do not.

8. Other services your browser contacts

8.1 The typeface on this site is loaded from Google Fonts. Your browser asks Google for it, so Google receives your IP address and browser details as part of that request. Google Fonts does not set cookies.

8.2 If you open a WhatsApp link, you leave this site and WhatsApp’s own terms apply.

9. The law

9.1 This policy is written for the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and the Nigeria Data Protection Commission’s General Application and Implementation Directive (GAID) 2025. We ask before anything is shared with an advertiser, refusing is as easy as accepting, and you can change your mind at any time. You may complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
